Plan International’s unprecedented global campaign, Because I am a Girl is directed at improving the lives of girls in some of the World’s most under-developed countries. In Canada, alone, the campaign’s goal is to raise $100 million dollars.

Why get involved?......because growing up in Canada we have, for the most part, the opportunity to make dreams come true. Travelling to Rwanda and Burkina Faso in West Africa I realized that so many girls around the world do not have the opportunity to become citizens of tomorrow.

You can make a real difference, if not the difference for girls. There is an awesome site where you can learn more. Just head to www.becauseIamagirl.ca.

Over the past 5 years, B2ten has developed, implemented and continually refined a training model for amateur athletes providing them with a comprehensive approach to maximize their potential at the highest level of competition.

A business-like approach (“B” in B2ten) has been adopted throughout in order to place the expertise, tools and support required to enhance performance at the disposition of the athlete. Financial support for B2ten invitees is provided by a diverse group of business leaders from across Canada. These individuals seek nothing in return being motivated solely by their desire that Canadian athletes receive the tools required to be their best.

At the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin I vividly remember while standing at the top of the mogul course that I was one hundred percent prepared. Having an incredible team of top sporting professionals available allowed me over a four year period to recover from chronic injuries and then go on to achieve results beyond even my wildest of dreams.

Since 2006, B2ten has provided many other Canadian high performance athletes across the country access to this individualized approach to sport preparing them for when the World comes to Canada in 2010.
Have now travelled for 8 years on the World Cup Ski Circuit I have witnessed first hand the dramatic recession of glaciers in Europe and North America. Watersheds, winter sports and outdoors activities area all I can’t imagine a winter in Canada without skiing, the sport I love. But scientists say that could be a reality if we don’t take action, today.

Traveling nine months of the year to compete and train on the World Cup Mogul Circuit, at the World Championships and Olympic Games (with a few surf trips in between) has been an incredible experience. I have circled the globe many times over while following my passion. But this opportunity comes with a heavy cost to the environment. This is why I am apart of the David Suzuki “Play it Cool” program. Along with many other Canadian athletes I purchase high quality carbon offsets. These carbon offsets are credits for reductions in the carbon dioxide (CO2) achieved elsewhere by projects such as wind farms or solar installations.
We all know the importance of family and community. Pursuing my dream to represent Canada at the Olympic Games has been an exciting journey.

It is a journey that I could not have embarked upon without the support and confidence that my family has helped to instill in me.

Edmonton based Kids Kottage is a must-have in the community. It provides young people and their parents with a vital resource in times of adversity. A vibrant Kids Kottage is a sign of a caring community.

While I am working hard at my training it is nothing compared to what Edmontonians do to make Kids Kottage an important and enduring place.
